Sending Limits Within a Time Period

Updated 19/6/2025

Are you getting the following error message when sending alot of emails from your desktop?
"Recipient address rejected: Rate limit reach, retry later"

With the implementation of our new mail server, we have introduced an updated email policy to ensure stable and reliable service for all users.

Email Sending Limits

Please note the following system-wide limits now in place for SMTP (not our bulk emailer):

  • Maximum 200 emails per 10-minute period
  • Maximum 2000 emails per day

These limits apply to all SMTP users and are not currently configurable on a per-user basis.

What Happens If You Exceed the Limit?

If your email activity exceeds these limits, your outgoing messages may be blocked or delayed. Users requiring bulk email functionality should consider using our built-in bulk emailer rather than using normal email services.

Recommended Workaround

If you regularly need to send high volumes of email (e.g., monthly statements), you can work around these restrictions by batching your email sends to ensure no more than 200 emails are sent within any 10-minute window.

Example: If you're sending 1000 account emails at the end of the month, you’ll need to distribute them in batches of 200 or fewer every 10 minutes to avoid hitting the threshold.

External Email Service Option

For users who cannot manage batching or need more flexibility, we recommend considering using

SMTP2GO (based in Christchurch, NZ)

Plan starts at NZD $15/month
