Security - How secure are our servers?

All our servers are protected by a stateful packet inspection firewall and monitored 24x7 by automated systems managed by a team of system administrators with over 30 years of experience. They regularly conduct security audits and perform intrusion penetration testing.

All servers are backed by hardware RAID and colocated in a tier-1 data centre in downtown Auckland. The data centre is monitored with state of the art video surveillance and intrusion alarm systems to ensure your data and all hardware are completely secure. Access is protected by keys, biometric palm scanners and visual identification. Power is supplied by reliable, parallel Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units and backed up by private diesel generators, our data centre is fully equipped to cope with even the most severe of black outs or power failures. It also has a state-of-the-art fire detection system with gas ionisation smoke detectors.

Daily backups are kept and stored locally as well as in several offsite secure locations.

We have lots of redundant hardware, so can cope with faults.

In most cases, credit card details are submitted directly to 3rd party payment gateways, and you should consult those gateways for security information. We also provide industry standard SSL protection for credit cards collected via our screens for BNZ BuyLine or Secure Credit Card Forms.

You can add SSL to any page, however, this will effect your SEO negatively for that page, and should be limited to forms which collect personal data only.

However, at the end of the day, the biggest security challenge we face are our customers selecting password which are too easy to guess. OR by customers who download dodgy software with trojan code in it that keylogs your passwords. If your computer gets compromised, or someone guesses your password, then there is nothing we can do to stop those people entering our system. We cannot tell the difference between the real you, or the fake you. We do take special care to identify usage patterns consistent with spammers and hackers, and quickly pounce on them when they do, but please do pick strong passwords, and be extra safe when you surf the internet.
